The Burgtec 96/64mm PCD Alloy Thick Thin Chainring is made for compatible Shimano mountain bike cranksets using the asymmetric four-bolt mounting pattern. It provides a simple way to replace a worn chainring, change your gearing or convert a suitable crankset to a cleaner 1x setup.

This chainring uses Shimano’s asymmetric 96/64mm mounting pattern. It does not fit symmetrical 96mm BCD cranks or newer Shimano M6100, M7100, M8100 and M9100 direct-mount cranksets.
Check the crank model number and bolt layout before ordering. Chainring diameter alone is not enough to confirm compatibility.
Choose the Right Tooth Count
- 30T: Easier climbing for steep and technical terrain
- 32T: A versatile choice for general trail and cross-country riding
- 34T: Taller gearing for stronger riders and faster terrain
A smaller ring makes climbing easier but reduces the highest available gear. A larger ring provides more speed before spinning out but requires more effort on steep climbs. Check frame and chainstay clearance before increasing the tooth count.
Thick Thin Tooth Profile
The alternating thick and thin teeth match the different internal widths of the chain links. This helps guide the chain onto the ring and keeps it engaged when riding through roots, rocks and braking bumps.
The tooth profile also provides clearance for mud and debris. Correct chain length and derailleur clutch adjustment remain important, particularly when converting from a double chainring setup or changing the tooth count.
Aerospace-Grade Aluminium
The chainring is made from aerospace-grade aluminium, providing a useful balance of strength, wear resistance and low weight. It is a round chainring rather than an oval model and is finished in Burgtec Black.

Our Thoughts
This ring is a practical way to keep a good Shimano M9000, M8000, M7000 or M6000 crankset in service. A 32T ring is the natural all-round choice, while 30T makes sense for steeper trails and 34T suits riders wanting taller gearing.
The main thing to check is the mounting pattern. Shimano has used several different 96mm and direct-mount systems, and they are not interchangeable. Look for the crank model number on the inside of the arm before ordering.
We also recommend checking the chain for wear. A heavily worn chain can run poorly on a new ring and shorten its working life.
