The product name uses GXP because that is how this chainring has traditionally been identified, but the important fitment detail is the SRAM three-bolt direct-mount interface. Some SRAM DUB cranks also use this interface, so spindle type alone does not confirm compatibility.

Understanding the 6mm Offset

The offset controls how far inboard the chainring sits relative to the crank. A 6mm offset is normally used to produce an approximately 49mm chainline on suitable non-Boost mountain bikes with 135mm quick-release or 142mm thru-axle rear hubs.

This should still be checked against the frame and crank manufacturer’s specifications. A 3mm Boost ring and a 6mm non-Boost ring may use the same three-bolt mount, but they position the chainring differently.

Choosing the wrong offset can place the chainring too far inboard or outboard, leading to increased drivetrain noise, faster wear and poor chain retention at the ends of the cassette.

Choose the Right Tooth Count

• 30T: Provides easier climbing gears for steep terrain, technical trails and riders who prefer a higher cadence
• 32T: A versatile all-round option with slightly higher gearing for faster or less demanding terrain

Changing from 32T to 30T makes every gear easier but slightly reduces your highest available gear. Moving from 30T to 32T provides more top-end speed but requires more effort on steep climbs.

Check the available frame clearance and chain length if you change tooth count rather than replacing the existing ring like for like.

Thick Thin Chain Retention

Burgtec’s alternating Thick Thin teeth match the inner and outer links of the chain. This helps guide the chain onto the ring and improves retention across roots, rocks and rough trail surfaces.

A Thick Thin ring works best with a compatible chain, correct chainline and a properly functioning clutch derailleur. It cannot compensate for a worn chain, damaged derailleur or poor drivetrain adjustment.

Our Thoughts

This is a good replacement for an older SRAM three-bolt crankset when the bike requires a 6mm offset. The main thing to get right is chainline. Do not assume this is the correct ring simply because your crank says SRAM or GXP.

Check the existing chainring offset and crank interface before ordering. We would also measure the chain for wear, as fitting a new chainring with a heavily worn chain can shorten its working life.
