A Clean, Leverless Replacement Axle for Compatible Santa Cruz and Juliana Bikes.
The Burgtec Santa Cruz 168.5mm Rear Axle replaces the original rear thru-axle on a range of compatible Santa Cruz and equivalent Juliana mountain bikes. Its leverless design gives the rear of the bike a tidy finish while providing extra clearance around the dropout.
Machined from 7075 aluminium, the axle is approximately 20g lighter than the corresponding standard OE axle. A 6mm hex fitting at each end provides a second removal point if the primary fitting becomes damaged.
Check Compatibility Before Ordering
This axle measures 168.5mm long, has a 12mm diameter and uses an M12 × 1.0 thread. All three measurements must match your frame and original axle.
It can be found on compatible bikes with either 12 × 142mm or 12 × 148mm rear spacing, but hub spacing alone does not confirm fit. Do not assume it will fit every Santa Cruz or every bike using one of these hub standards.

The axle also fits corresponding Juliana equivalents. Frame generations can use different axle designs, so check the model, version and original axle before ordering.
Leverless Design
Removing the external quick-release lever reduces the chance of it being knocked or caught by trailside debris. The axle is installed with a 6mm hex key, allowing a suitable torque wrench to be used for accurate tightening.
Always follow the frame manufacturer’s specified axle torque. The leverless design is tidy and practical, but it is not an anti-theft feature.

This axle is a good replacement for a damaged original or a simple way to remove the protruding quick-release lever. The second 6mm fitting is particularly useful if one end becomes rounded or difficult to remove.
The main thing to check is compatibility. Santa Cruz has used different axle dimensions across its frame generations, so the model name alone is not enough. Compare the 168.5mm length and M12 × 1.0 thread with the original axle before buying.
