A Clean, Leverless Replacement Axle for Compatible Specialized Bikes.
The Burgtec Specialized 12 × 172mm Rear Axle is a strong, neatly finished replacement for selected Specialized mountain bikes and e-bikes. It is machined from 7075 aluminium and uses a low-profile leverless design that provides good clearance around the frame.
A 6mm hex fitting at each end provides two points for installation and removal. The secondary drive-side fitting can be used if the primary non-drive-side interface becomes damaged.
Compatibility
This axle is designed for the following Specialized model families and years:
- Chisel: 2025
- Chisel HT: 2018–2025
- Demo: 2019–2025
- Epic: 2018–2023
- Epic HT: 2017–2025
- Epic EVO: 2021–2023
- Enduro: 2020–2024
- Fuse: 2020–2021

- Levo SL: 2020–2025
- Stumpjumper: 2018–2024
- Stumpjumper EVO: 2019–2024
Compatibility can vary between frame generations. Check your bike’s exact model year and compare the dimensions and thread of the original axle before ordering.
Check Newer Specialized Models Carefully
This is not the correct axle for every current Specialized mountain bike. Models including the Epic 8, Epic World Cup, Levo 4, Status 2, Stumpjumper 15 and selected newer Enduro frames use a different Burgtec 174.5mm rear axle.
If your bike is not included in the compatibility list, do not assume this axle will fit because it has a 12mm diameter. The overall length, thread pitch and frame interface must also match.
7075 Aluminium Construction
The axle is machined from 7075 aluminium to provide a useful balance of strength and low weight. Its leverless head sits close to the frame, reducing the chance of catching an external handle on rocks, vegetation or other obstacles.
The leverless design is not an anti-theft feature. A standard 6mm hex key is all that is required for installation and removal.
Installation
Apply suitable grease to the axle shaft and threads before installation. Tighten it to the torque specified by Specialized for your frame rather than relying on feel or a generic axle setting.
Check that the rear wheel is seated correctly and that the axle threads engage smoothly. Stop if the axle binds, feels unusually tight or does not sit correctly against the frame.

Our Thoughts
This is a tidy replacement for a damaged original axle or a good way to match other Burgtec components on the bike. The secondary hex fitting is a practical detail because it gives you another removal point if the main interface is ever damaged.
The important part is choosing the correct axle. Specialized has used several rear-axle specifications across different generations, so checking the model year and original axle is much safer than ordering by bike name alone.
