The Burgtec SRAM 8-Bolt Chainring is made for compatible SRAM Eagle Transmission mountain bike cranksets. Its 3mm offset, Thick Thin tooth profile and direct-mount construction provide a tidy drivetrain setup with reliable chain control over rough ground.

Available in 28T, 30T, 32T and 34T sizes, it lets you choose gearing to suit your bike, terrain and riding style. It is also designed to accept Burgtec’s matching bolt-on chainring bash guards, which are available separately.

This is not a universal chainring for every SRAM 8-bolt crank. SRAM also uses an 8-bolt interface on some road, gravel, power-meter and other cranksets with different chainline requirements. Confirm the required interface, offset and tooth profile before ordering.

Choose the Right Tooth Count

• 28T: The easiest climbing option for steep terrain and heavier bikes
• 30T: Well suited to technical trails, long climbs and e-MTB use
• 32T: A versatile choice for general trail and enduro riding
• 34T: Taller gearing for stronger riders and faster terrain

A smaller chainring makes climbing easier but reduces the highest available gear. A larger chainring provides more speed before spinning out but requires more effort on steep climbs. Always check frame and chainstay clearance before moving to a larger chainring.

Thick Thin Chain Retention

Burgtec’s alternating thick and thin teeth match the different internal widths of the chain links. This helps guide the chain onto the ring and keeps it securely engaged when riding over roots, rocks and braking bumps.

The tooth profile also provides space for mud and debris to clear. Correct chain length and derailleur setup remain important, particularly when changing the chainring size.

CNC-Machined Aluminium Construction

The chainring is CNC-machined from aluminium to balance strength, weight and durability. Its direct-mount design removes the need for a separate chainring spider and gives the drivetrain a clean appearance.

This is a round chainring rather than an oval model. It is designed and manufactured in the UK.

Optional Burgtec Bash Guards

Threaded mounting points allow compatible Burgtec bash guards to attach directly to the chainring. A single guard provides protection at the most exposed point, while a pair gives broader coverage for rocky enduro and downhill riding.

The bash guards are sold separately and are available in colours that can be matched or mixed with the chainring.

Our Thoughts

This chainring makes the most sense for riders with a compatible SRAM Transmission crank who want different gearing, a replacement ring or the option of adding Burgtec’s direct-mount bash guards.

For most trail bikes, 30T or 32T will be the natural choice. We would consider 28T for particularly steep terrain or a heavier e-MTB, while 34T suits riders who prioritise speed over the easiest possible climbing gear.

Check the crank interface and required offset before ordering. We also recommend checking chain wear because fitting a new chainring to a heavily worn chain can cause poor engagement and shorten the life of the new ring.
