Description

Lightweight 1x Chainring for SRAM 94mm BCD Cranks.

The Burgtec SRAM 94mm BCD Alloy Thick Thin Chainring is a lightweight replacement or gearing upgrade for compatible SRAM mountain bike cranksets. Its alternating Thick Thin tooth profile helps keep the chain engaged over rough terrain, while the alloy construction keeps weight down.

It is available in 30T, 32T and 34T sizes and works with suitable 9, 10, 11 and 12-speed drivetrains. This alloy model is intended for conventional mountain bikes. Riders using an e-bike should choose Burgtec’s dedicated steel e-bike chainring.

Compatibility

  • Fits compatible SRAM cranks using a four-bolt 94mm BCD mounting pattern
  • Compatible with SRAM X01, X1, GX-1000, GX Eagle 1000 and suitable NX cranks
  • Suitable for compatible 9, 10, 11 and 12-speed drivetrains
  • Designed for single-chainring mountain bike drivetrains
  • Available in 30T, 32T and 34T sizes
  • Not recommended as a substitute for Burgtec’s steel e-bike chainring

SRAM has used several different chainring interfaces, so check your crank carefully before ordering. This ring requires the SRAM four-bolt 94mm BCD pattern and will not fit SRAM direct-mount, three-bolt or eight-bolt cranks.

Choose the Right Tooth Count

  • 30T: Easier gearing for steep climbs, technical trails and riders who prefer a higher pedalling cadence
  • 32T: A versatile all-round choice that balances climbing ability with useful speed on flatter trails
  • 34T: Higher gearing for stronger riders, faster terrain or bikes regularly used on flatter trails

Changing to a smaller chainring makes every gear easier but reduces the highest available gear. A larger chainring provides more top-end speed but requires greater effort on steep climbs. Frame clearance and chain length should be checked when changing tooth count.

Thick Thin Chain Retention

Burgtec’s alternating tooth profile matches the inner and outer links of the chain. This helps guide the chain onto the ring and improves retention when riding across roots, rocks and rough ground.

A Thick Thin chainring works best as part of a correctly set up drivetrain with a suitable clutch derailleur. It cannot compensate for a badly worn chain, damaged derailleur or incorrect chainline.

Lightweight Alloy Construction

The alloy construction provides a useful balance of strength and low weight for trail, enduro and cross-country riding. It is a good option when replacing a worn original ring or changing the gearing without replacing the complete crankset.

For e-bike use, we recommend Burgtec’s dedicated steel version. The extra weight of steel is less important on an e-bike and its increased resistance to tooth wear is better suited to the additional drivetrain loads created by motor assistance.

Key Features

  • Lightweight alloy construction
  • Four-bolt 94mm BCD mounting pattern
  • Thick Thin tooth profile supports dependable chain retention
  • Suitable for compatible 9–12-speed drivetrains
  • Choice of 30T, 32T or 34T gearing
  • Designed for conventional 1x mountain bike drivetrains
  • Compatible with selected SRAM X01, X1, GX and NX cranks

Our Thoughts

This is a straightforward upgrade for an older SRAM crank that uses the 94mm BCD pattern. The main decision is gearing: 30T suits steeper trails, 32T is the safest all-round choice and 34T makes sense for stronger riders or faster terrain.

Check the crank interface before ordering rather than relying on the groupset name alone. We would also measure the existing chain for wear, as fitting a new chainring with a heavily worn chain can shorten the life of both components.
