These black powder-coated FOX steel springs are for compatible DHX and DHX2 rear shocks. They are a solid choice for riders who want the consistent feel and traction of a coil shock without paying for a lightweight SLS or titanium spring.

Spring rate, spring travel and total spring length all need to suit the shock. Do not choose by spring rate alone.

Choosing the Right Spring

• Spring rate: Measured in pounds per inch (lb/in). This determines how firm the rear suspension feels and how much sag it runs.
• Spring travel: The travel marked on the spring must be greater than the stroke of your rear shock.
• Total spring length (TLG): The overall free length of the spring. It must fit between the shock’s preload collar and spring retainer. FOX specifies minimum and maximum spring lengths for different shock sizes.

For example, a spring marked 500 lb/in x 2.80in has a 500 lb/in rate and must only be used on a shock with less than 2.80 inches of stroke. Its total length must also suit that shock.

Before You Order

Do not select a spring by rider weight alone. Frame leverage ratio, riding gear, riding style and the bike’s intended use all affect the rate required.

Use the FOX Spring Calculator as a starting point, then check the rate, spring-travel and total-length markings on your existing coil. The spring’s internal diameter and total length must suit the shock, and the fitted spring must clear the frame and linkage throughout the bike’s full suspension travel.

Set sag with the spring fitted. If you cannot achieve the correct sag without excessive preload, change the spring rate rather than winding on more preload. FOX recommends no more than two full turns of preload once the spring is seated.

Important Variant Check

Some spring rates are available in more than one total length or spring-travel option. Check the complete option name and FOX part number rather than selecting by rate alone. If two options appear identical, confirm the total spring length before ordering.
