Shimano EP600 Mid-Drive Motor
The Shimano EP600 motor delivers smooth assistance through the cranks, giving the Jaunt EZ 1 a natural feel as you pedal. With up to 85Nm of torque, it has plenty of support for Christchurch winds, steeper climbs and carrying gear on the rear rack.
Different assistance settings let you choose between stronger support and longer battery life. The motor responds to your pedalling rather than using a throttle, so the bike still feels familiar and easy to control.
Removable 504Wh Battery
The Shimano 504Wh battery is suited to commuting, shorter recreational rides and regular trips around town. It can be removed from the bike for charging or security, which is handy if your storage area does not have access to a power point.

The Jaunt EZ 1 is the better-value choice for commuting and shorter recreational rides. The Jaunt EZ 2 adds a larger 630Wh battery, dropper seatpost and Maxxis Ikon tubeless-ready tyres, making it better suited to longer rides and riders spending more time on gravel or cycle trails.
Our Thoughts on the Sinch Jaunt EZ 1
The Jaunt EZ 1 puts most of the budget into the areas that matter. The Shimano EP600 motor is strong enough for proper hills, the LinkGlide drivetrain is well suited to e-bike use and the air fork can be adjusted for the rider.
The 504Wh battery is smaller than the one fitted to the Jaunt EZ 2, but it should be enough for many riders using the bike for commuting and local trips. The included lights, mudguards and rear carrier also make it far more useful straight out of the shop than a bare recreational e-bike.
We would choose the Jaunt EZ 1 for a rider who wants a comfortable and well-equipped Shimano-powered e-bike without paying for the larger battery and extra trail-focused equipment of the higher Jaunt models.
