40g of Carbohydrate. No Caffeine. Made for Going Longer.
Maurten Gel 160 is a larger energy gel for cycling, running and other endurance activities. Each 65g sachet provides 40g of carbohydrate without caffeine, giving you more fuel per sachet than Maurten Gel 100.
It uses Maurten's Hydrogel Technology and has a firmer consistency than a conventional syrup-style gel. The neutral taste keeps sweetness low, which can make it easier to use during longer training sessions and events.
Maurten Hydrogel Technology
Gel 160 combines glucose and fructose with sodium alginate, gluconic acid and calcium carbonate to create its hydrogel structure.
Maurten's Hydrogel Technology encapsulates the carbohydrates in a hydrogel structure designed to carry them through the stomach.
Each sachet contains 40g of carbohydrate in a 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio. The measured serving makes it straightforward to include within an hourly carbohydrate target.
When to Use It
Gel 160 can be used before exercise as a carbohydrate preload or during longer training sessions and events. Its larger serving is useful when you want to carry fewer gels while still taking in a substantial amount of carbohydrate.
The gel does not contain caffeine, making it easier to use alongside caffeinated products without unintentionally increasing your total caffeine intake.
Fuelling needs vary with the duration and intensity of exercise. Test Gel 160 during training before relying on it for a race or important event, and continue drinking enough fluid for the conditions.

Our Thoughts
Gel 160 makes sense for long rides and events where carrying enough fuel becomes difficult. With 40g of carbohydrate in each sachet, you can reach a higher hourly intake without opening as many gels.
It is a larger serving than Gel 100, so we recommend trying it during training first. Riders who prefer smaller and more frequent servings may still find the 25g Gel 100 easier to manage.
