Muc-Off Bio Chain Cleaner is a fast-acting aerosol formulated to remove accumulated lubricant, dirt and heavy grime from bicycle chains and drivetrain components.
Its water-soluble formula penetrates around the chain, cassette and derailleurs to break down oily contamination before rinsing away with fresh water. It can be sprayed directly onto the drivetrain or used with the compatible Muc-Off Bio Chain Doc.
Once the drivetrain has been cleaned, rinsed and dried, fresh chain lubricant can be applied without mixing with old oil and contamination.

Bio Chain Cleaner or Bio Drivetrain Cleaner?
Bio Chain Cleaner is a fast-acting aerosol designed for direct application to the chain and drivetrain. It is also the correct product for use with the Muc-Off Bio Chain Doc.
Bio Drivetrain Cleaner is a pourable liquid supplied in a trigger-spray bottle. It can be applied across the drivetrain or poured into a compatible chain-cleaning machine such as the Muc-Off X-3.
Choose Bio Chain Cleaner if you prefer the direct application of an aerosol or use a Bio Chain Doc. Choose Bio Drivetrain Cleaner if you want a pourable cleaner for broader drivetrain cleaning or use with an X-3 Dirty Chain Machine.
How to Use
Rinse the drivetrain with fresh water to remove loose contamination. Cover disc rotors, brake pads and rim-braking surfaces to protect them from aerosol overspray.
Shake the can thoroughly, then spray Bio Chain Cleaner onto the chain and appropriate drivetrain components while carefully rotating the cranks backwards. Agitate stubborn contamination using a dedicated chain or drivetrain brush.
Rinse the entire drivetrain thoroughly with fresh water. Dry the chain completely, then apply a lubricant suited to your riding conditions. Wipe away excess lubricant before riding.
Why Use a Dedicated Chain Cleaner?
Old lubricant combines with dirt and grit to create a contaminated coating around the chain links and rollers. Applying fresh lubricant over this build-up does not properly clean the chain and can carry the contamination further into the drivetrain.
A dedicated chain cleaner removes the old lubricant and grime so the chain can be dried and lubricated correctly.
Our Thoughts
The aerosol format is convenient when you want to apply cleaner directly along the chain, particularly when using the Bio Chain Doc. It works quickly, but careful application matters because aerosol overspray can travel further than expected.
For cleaning a heavily contaminated cassette and complete drivetrain, we often prefer the control of Bio Drivetrain Cleaner and a selection of brushes. For quick chain cleaning or use with the Chain Doc, Bio Chain Cleaner is the appropriate option.

Bio Chain Cleaner is an extremely flammable aerosol supplied in a pressurised container. Keep it away from heat, sparks, open flames and direct sunlight. Do not puncture or burn the container and keep it out of reach of children.
Protect disc rotors, brake pads, rim-braking surfaces and tyre tread from overspray. Use in a well-ventilated area and follow all directions and safety information printed on the can.
