Why Choose Muc-Off Dark Energy Chain Wax?
Dark Energy is designed for riders who want the efficiency and clean-running characteristics of chain wax in an easy-to-apply liquid format. Once properly prepared and allowed to dry, it creates a protective wax coating that helps minimise contamination, friction and drivetrain wear.
How to Use
Thoroughly clean the chain, cassette, chainrings and pulley wheels and make sure the entire drivetrain is completely dry. If applying Dark Energy to a new chain, completely remove the factory grease first. Shake the bottle very well before use.
Apply one drop of Dark Energy to each chain link, starting at the quick link, and complete two full rotations of the chain. Slowly shift through the gears to help coat the cassette.
Allow the wax to dry for at least 12 hours before riding. In cooler conditions, Muc-Off recommends allowing around 24 hours for the best results.
Our Thoughts
The biggest consideration with Dark Energy is preparation. This isn't a lube we'd recommend dripping onto a chain that's still carrying old oil or contamination. Start with a properly cleaned and dry drivetrain and give the wax enough time to cure.
Do that and it makes a lot of sense for road, gravel and MTB riders who want a cleaner drivetrain while still prioritising efficiency and wear protection. It's also a convenient option if you like the idea of chain waxing but don't want to get into removing chains and using a hot-wax setup.
When to Reapply
In dry conditions, wipe the chain with a clean microfibre cloth and reapply when the wax has worn down and the drivetrain begins to sound noticeably louder. After riding in wet conditions, clean and reapply the wax promptly to maintain protection.
Please Note
Avoid contact with brake pads and rotors. Store between 5°C and 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not allow the product to freeze.
