Cleaning an e-bike chain can be awkward because many e-bike drivetrains don't allow the crank to freely rotate backwards in the same way as a conventional bike. The Muc-Off eBike Drivetrain Tool is designed to solve that problem by allowing you to turn a compatible crank backwards while cleaning or lubricating the chain.
The CNC-machined 6061 aluminium tool uses a 5mm hex, 6mm hex or T30 Torx bit to engage with a compatible chainring bolt. As the crank is carefully rotated backwards, the silicone-covered tool body rests against the crank and creates the connection needed to move the drivetrain. The three bits are stored inside the tool for additional workshop convenience.

Why Is Cleaning an E-Bike Chain Different?
On many e-bikes, turning the crank backwards doesn't drive the chain around the drivetrain. That makes something as simple as applying chain lube evenly to every roller more awkward than it is on a conventional bike.
The eBike Drivetrain Tool provides a mechanical connection that lets you rotate a compatible drivetrain backwards, making it easier to clean the chain, inspect it and apply lubricant without having to repeatedly move the bike or lift the rear wheel.
How to Use
Unscrew the top cap, remove the internal bit holder and select the appropriate 5mm hex, 6mm hex or T30 Torx bit. Return the bit holder to the body, refit the cap and place the selected bit into the magnetic tool end.
Insert the bit straight and centrally into the compatible chainring bolt. Slowly rotate the crank backwards until it rests against the protective silicone sleeve, then continue backpedalling while holding the pedal to clean or lubricate the drivetrain.
You may need to rotate the crank forwards slightly before removing the tool. Return the bit to the internal holder after use.

If you regularly clean your own e-bike, this is one of those specialist tools that solves a surprisingly annoying problem. Being able to continuously move the chain while cleaning, drying and applying lubricant makes the whole job much easier.

Check compatibility with your specific crank and chainring before use. Always follow the e-bike and drivetrain manufacturer's maintenance instructions and keep hands, clothing and cleaning equipment clear of moving drivetrain components.
Compatible with most e-bike chainrings that use a bolt-on spider. It is not compatible with spiderless chainrings. Some tapered spider designs, including certain Specialized Levo SL setups, may require an additional internal spacer for the bit to reach the chainring bolt.
