Muc-Off Rain Shield Re-Proofer is a spray-on DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment designed to restore the water-repellent performance of technical clothing. It helps water bead and roll away from the outer fabric rather than soaking into the surface, while maintaining the breathability of compatible garments.
The water-based, PFC-free formula can be used on a wide range of waterproof and technical fabrics, including Gore-Tex, Polartec, Pertex and eVent, as well as compatible softshell, hardshell and down-filled garments. It also helps reduce the adhesion of wet mud, grime and stains, making it particularly useful for cycling clothing regularly exposed to poor weather.

Why re-proof waterproof clothing?
A waterproof jacket can still have a functioning waterproof membrane even when the outer fabric starts looking and feeling wet. Over time, the original DWR coating on the outside of the garment wears away, allowing the face fabric to absorb water rather than bead it away.
Reapplying a suitable DWR treatment helps restore this outer water repellency, which can improve comfort and help the garment's breathable construction work as intended.
How to Use
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. Start with a clean, damp garment and always follow the washing and care instructions on its label.
In a dry, well-ventilated area, spray the garment evenly from approximately 10–15cm away until the fabric is fully treated. Wipe away excess treatment with a clean cloth.
Hang the garment and allow it to air dry overnight before using it in wet conditions. For the best results, allow approximately 24 hours for the treatment to cure fully.
Our Thoughts
If your waterproof cycling jacket is still keeping water from reaching you but the outside has started soaking up rain rather than beading it away, we'd try re-proofing it before considering replacing the jacket.
It's particularly useful for MTB and commuting jackets that get washed regularly, as dirt, wear and repeated cleaning gradually reduce the original DWR finish.
Please Note
Rain Shield Re-Proofer restores the DWR treatment on compatible fabrics; it cannot repair a damaged waterproof membrane, torn fabric or leaking seams.
Always follow the garment manufacturer's care instructions and check that DWR treatments are suitable for your particular garment before application.
Ordinary household detergents can reduce DWR performance. Use a suitable technical clothing wash and follow the garment manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
Applying Rain Shield to a non-waterproof fabric may add some water resistance, but it will not make that garment fully waterproof.
