Specialized Recon 1.0 Gravel & Mountain Bike SPD Shoes

Comfortable to Ride. Easy to Walk In. Ready for Adventure.

The Specialized Recon 1.0 is a versatile gravel and mountain bike shoe designed for riders who want more efficiency on the bike without giving up comfort away from it. It’s a great option for recreational gravel rides, cross-country trails, bikepacking, indoor training and riders clipping in for the first time.

Specialized’s STRIDE toe-flex technology combines a supportive cleat pocket with controlled flexibility through the forefoot. Add a simple BOA® L6 closure and grippy SlipNot™ rubber tread, and the result is a practical shoe that works well across a wide range of riding.

Body Geometry Support

Specialized’s Body Geometry sole construction and footbeds are ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to support efficient alignment through the feet, knees and hips.

The Varus Wedge, Longitudinal Arch and Metatarsal Button work together to create a stable pedalling platform and help reduce pressure that can contribute to discomfort. Specialized claims its Body Geometry design can improve power output by seven watts.

Efficient on the Bike, Comfortable on Foot

Injection STRIDE toe-flex technology allows the forefoot to move more naturally when walking while keeping the cleat area supportive under power.

With a stiffness index of 6.0, the Recon 1.0 provides a good balance between pedalling efficiency and everyday comfort. It feels more supportive than a flexible recreational shoe without becoming awkward when you step off the bike.

Simple BOA® L6 Adjustment

A single BOA® L6 dial makes the fit quick and straightforward to adjust. It provides a secure hold without the hassle of traditional laces and can be easily released at the end of the ride.

Soft-lace cables made with Dyneema® yarn reduce unwanted stretch. By removing hard moulded cable guides, the upper can conform more comfortably around the foot.

Balanced Everyday Performance

The outsole provides enough support for climbing, longer rides and indoor training while retaining the flexibility needed for recreational use.

This makes the Recon 1.0 a practical first clip-in shoe and a dependable everyday option for riders who don’t need the extreme stiffness of a race-focused model.

Confident SlipNot™ Traction

SlipNot™ rubber tread provides dependable grip across gravel, dirt and uneven ground.

The recessed two-bolt cleat and grippy outsole make walking easier than it is in a traditional road shoe, whether you’re stopping at a café, pushing up a steep section or exploring away from the bike.

Our Thoughts on the Specialized Recon 1.0

The Recon 1.0 is the shoe we’d recommend to riders trying clip-in pedals for the first time or wanting one pair for several types of riding. The sole feels supportive on the bike but still has enough flex through the toe to make walking reasonably comfortable.

The single BOA® dial keeps adjustment simple, while the soft cable routing sits comfortably across the top of the foot. The SlipNot™ tread also provides useful grip for café stops, gravel shortcuts and short walks on the trail.

It won’t feel as stiff or locked in as the Recon 3.0 or S-Works models, but that isn’t what it’s designed for. For recreational gravel riding, trail use or indoor training, the Recon 1.0 offers a very practical balance of comfort, efficiency and value.
