Specialized Recon 2.0 Gravel & Mountain Bike Shoes

Efficient Pedalling. Comfortable Walking. Built for Days in the Dirt.

Whether you're riding fast gravel roads, tackling technical singletrack or heading out for an all-day adventure, the Recon 2.0 is built for riders who want efficient pedalling without sacrificing the comfort to walk, explore and keep riding.

The Specialized Recon 2.0 Gravel & Mountain Bike Shoes are designed for riders who want efficient power transfer without sacrificing comfort when the ride includes time off the bike. They’re equally at home on gravel roads, cross-country trails and long mixed-terrain adventures.

Specialized’s STRIDE toe-flex technology combines a stiff cleat pocket with controlled flexibility through the forefoot, creating an efficient pedalling platform that remains comfortable to walk in. In other words, the sole remains stiff beneath the cleat for efficient power transfer while allowing the front of the shoe to flex naturally when you're walking.

A BOA® Li2 closure, adjustable forefoot strap and grippy SlipNot™ rubber outsole complete a versatile shoe built for full days outside.

Body Geometry Support

Specialized’s Body Geometry sole construction and footbeds are ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to optimise alignment through the feet, knees and hips.

The integrated Varus Wedge, Longitudinal Arch and Metatarsal Button work together to create a stable pedalling platform, improve efficiency and help reduce pressure that can contribute to discomfort. Specialized claims the Body Geometry design can improve power output by seven watts.

Efficient on the Bike, Flexible on Foot

Injection STRIDE toe-flex technology combines flexibility through the toe area with a stiff cleat pocket beneath the pedal.

The sole remains supportive where power is transferred into the pedals but allows more natural toe movement when walking. With a stiffness index of 6.0, the Recon 2.0 provides a useful balance between pedalling efficiency and off-bike comfort.

Precise BOA® Li2 Adjustment

A BOA® Li2 dial provides small, accurate fit adjustments in both directions. This makes it easy to increase or release tension while riding as your feet expand or conditions change.

Soft-lace cables made with Dyneema® yarn distribute tension without requiring hard moulded guides, helping create a comfortable and secure fit across the top of the foot.

Adjustable Forefoot Fit

A separate forefoot strap allows the volume around the toe box to be adjusted independently. This helps accommodate different foot shapes and gives riders greater control over how securely the front of the shoe fits.

The combination of the forefoot strap and BOA® closure keeps the foot stable during technical riding without applying unnecessary pressure around the toes.

Comfortable Welded Upper

The welded upper reduces the number of seams inside the shoe, creating a smoother and more comfortable step-in feel.

Its supportive construction helps keep the foot securely positioned during pedalling while retaining the comfort required for long gravel rides and all-day trail sessions.

Confident SlipNot™ Traction

The SlipNot™ rubber outsole provides dependable grip across dirt, rock and uneven ground. It offers useful traction when walking steep sections, navigating slippery surfaces or stopping during a gravel adventure.

The recessed two-bolt cleat position also makes walking more natural than it is in a traditional road cycling shoe.

Our Thoughts on the Specialized Recon 2.0

The Recon 2.0 is a shoe we’d recommend to riders who want a noticeable improvement in pedalling efficiency but still need to walk comfortably. It’s stiff enough around the cleat to feel supportive on longer climbs, without feeling awkward when you get off the bike.

The BOA® Li2 dial makes the fit easy to adjust, while the separate forefoot strap is useful for riders who need a little more or less room around the toes. The SlipNot™ tread also provides reassuring grip when walking loose climbs, crossing rocky ground or stopping for a break.

For most gravel riders and recreational cross-country mountain bikers, the Recon 2.0 strikes a very practical balance. It’s more performance-focused than an entry-level MTB shoe, but it remains comfortable and versatile enough for long days and mixed-terrain adventures. Whether you're riding gravel roads, technical singletrack, marathon XC events or bikepacking adventures, the Recon 2.0 is designed for riders who want one shoe that performs confidently both on and off the bike.
