Schwalbe Tyre Marathon E-Plus 27.5–700c Tyre – HS498 Pattern
Maximum Puncture Protection for Everyday E-Bike Riding.
The Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus is built for riders who would rather carry a heavier tyre than deal with punctures on a heavy e-bike. Its Smart DualGuard system earns Schwalbe’s highest Level 7 puncture-protection rating, while the reinforced casing handles the extra weight of the motor, battery and luggage.
The HS498 trekking tread works well on sealed roads, cycle paths and compact gravel. It is a practical choice for commuting, touring and high-mileage e-bike use.
Schwalbe’s Highest Puncture-Protection Level
Smart DualGuard combines a 4mm SmartGuard rubber layer with two layers of RaceGuard fabric.
This creates a substantial barrier against the glass, sharp stones and metal fragments commonly found on roads and cycle paths. No tyre can stop every puncture, but the Marathon E-Plus is one of the strongest options for riders who want to minimise roadside repairs.
Made to Carry More Weight
The reinforced casing and additional sidewall fabric help the tyre remain stable under the higher loads of an e-bike.
This is useful when cornering or descending on a bike carrying a battery, rider and loaded panniers. Schwalbe’s anti-ageing sidewall also helps reduce cracking caused by repeated use at low pressure, although correct inflation is still important.
ADDIX E Compound and HS498 Tread
The ADDIX E compound is made specifically for e-bikes, with an emphasis on grip, durability and sensible rolling resistance.
The HS498 tread rolls efficiently on sealed roads and provides useful grip on compact gravel and maintained cycle trails. It is not intended for loose, muddy or technical mountain bike terrain.

Who Is This Tyre For?
The Marathon E-Plus suits e-bike commuters, touring riders and anyone covering plenty of kilometres with luggage.
It makes particular sense on bikes where removing the rear wheel is difficult, such as models with a rear hub motor. If low weight and a soft, performance-focused ride matter more than puncture protection, this is probably more tyre than you need.

✔ Long-distance touring
✔ Loaded bikes and panniers
✔ Roads and cycle paths
✔ Rail trails and compact gravel
✔ High-mileage riding
✔ Riders wanting maximum puncture protection
Our Thoughts on the Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus
We’d fit the Marathon E-Plus to an everyday e-bike when avoiding punctures matters more than saving weight. Repairing a rear puncture on a heavy e-bike can be a real hassle, so the extra protection has genuine value.
It is a heavy and fairly firm tyre, but the motor offsets much of that weight while riding. The reinforced casing also feels more settled when the bike is carrying panniers or other luggage.
These tyres can be tight to install. Professional fitting is worth considering, particularly on rear-hub-drive bikes. Once fitted, use a pressure gauge—the stiff casing can feel firm by hand even when the pressure is too low.
