Schwalbe Tyre Marathon Plus HS440 Tyre
Maximum Puncture Protection for Everyday Riding.
The Schwalbe Marathon Plus is made for commuters and touring riders who are tired of fixing punctures. Its 5mm SmartGuard layer adds weight, but provides far more protection from glass and road debris than a standard commuter tyre.
This is not a lightweight performance tyre. It is made for riders who would rather carry some extra weight than regularly stop to repair punctures.
SmartGuard Protection
A 5mm layer of highly elastic SmartGuard rubber sits between the tread and inner tube. It helps prevent many sharp objects from reaching the tube, including small pieces of glass and metal.
Schwalbe describes the Marathon Plus as “Flat-Less”, but no bicycle tyre can prevent every puncture. What it does offer is strong protection against the hazards responsible for most everyday flats.
Built for Plenty of Kilometres
Schwalbe’s Endurance Compound is made for long service life, making the Marathon Plus a good option for bikes used regularly in all seasons.
The anti-ageing sidewall helps resist the cracking that can develop when a tyre is repeatedly used below its recommended pressure. Correct inflation still matters, both for protecting the tyre and keeping it rolling efficiently.
Suitable for Bikes and E-Bikes
The Marathon Plus is E-25 rated, making it suitable for standard pedelecs providing assistance up to 25km/h.
Selected sizes also carry E-50 and ECE-R75 approval for faster European speed e-bikes. Check the markings on the individual tyre if this certification is required.
Versions marked Reflex include a reflective sidewall strip for improved visibility in low-light conditions.

Who Is This Tyre For?
The Marathon Plus suits commuters, touring cyclists and everyday riders who want to reduce the likelihood of punctures.
It is particularly useful for high-mileage bikes and e-bikes where removing a wheel can be difficult. If low weight, fast acceleration or a soft ride is the priority, this is probably more protection than you need.

✔ Riders wanting fewer roadside punctures
✔ Low-light riding with Reflex versions
Our Thoughts on the Schwalbe Marathon Plus
We’d fit the Marathon Plus to a commuter, touring bike or e-bike when avoiding punctures matters more than weight or a soft ride. It is firm and can be tight to install, but once fitted and set to the correct pressure, it is a dependable tyre for everyday use.
Use a pressure gauge rather than checking it by hand. The thick SmartGuard layer can make the tyre feel properly inflated when it is still too soft.
