The Selle Royal Explora is designed for riders looking for more comfort and support on recreational, commuting and mixed-surface rides. Rather than using one saddle shape for every rider, the Explora comes in three versions to suit different positions on the bike.
The Athletic model is designed around a more forward 45-degree riding position, Moderate suits a more upright 60-degree position and Relaxed is designed for a fully upright 90-degree position. As your riding position becomes more upright, more of your weight is carried through the saddle, which is why each version gets progressively wider.
Each model uses a waved profile to help you settle into a consistent position, along with an ergonomic relief channel and Royalgel cushioning to help reduce pressure through sensitive areas while supporting your sit bones.

Which Selle Royal Explora Should I Choose?
The important thing isn't simply choosing the widest saddle because it looks more comfortable.
If you ride in a relatively sporty position with your upper body leaning forward, the 155mm Athletic is the place to start. If your bike puts you in a more upright recreational or commuting position, the 175mm Moderate provides a broader platform.
The 220mm Relaxed is designed for genuinely upright bikes where you're carrying considerably more of your weight through the saddle. It isn't automatically more comfortable on a bike with a forward riding position just because it's wider.
Our Thoughts
This is a good example of why we don't recommend choosing a saddle on width or padding alone. Your position on the bike changes where you carry your weight and how your sit bones contact the saddle.
If you're not sure whether you're Athletic, Moderate or Relaxed, don't get too caught up trying to work out whether you're sitting at exactly 45 or 60 degrees. Bring your bike in and we can look at how you actually sit on it. That's much more useful when choosing between the three shapes.
