The Vaia Moderate comes with a compact nine-function multi-tool that attaches underneath the saddle using Selle Royal's Integrated Clip System.
It's a clever place to carry a basic tool because it stays with the bike rather than taking up room in your pockets or saddle bag. The tool sits inside a protective rubber housing and can be removed when you need to make a quick adjustment while you're out riding.
Why Choose the Selle Royal Vaia Moderate?
The Vaia Moderate is worth looking at if you want a well-cushioned saddle but also need good pressure relief through the centre.
The Royalgel provides the cushioning, while the large cut-out is particularly useful for riders who don't get on with pressure through the middle of a conventional saddle. The included multi-tool is a handy extra rather than the main reason we'd choose the Vaia.
Our Thoughts
We like that Selle Royal hasn't tried to solve comfort simply by making the Vaia softer. The combination of sit-bone support, Royalgel cushioning and a proper centre cut-out makes much more sense.
The Moderate version is designed for riders who sit reasonably upright but still have some forward lean towards the handlebars. If your bike has you sitting completely upright, we'd look at a saddle designed specifically for that position instead.
And while Selle Royal quotes a 40% reduction in pressure peaks for Royalgel compared with standard padding materials, we'd still put saddle fit ahead of the amount of gel. The right width and shape are what give the cushioning a chance to do its job.
