Low-Stack Ultegra Road Pedals with Shimano’s New SPD-SLR System.
The Shimano Ultegra PD-R8200 SPD-SLR road pedals bring Shimano’s latest low-stack road-pedal platform to performance-focused riders. A wide, stable contact area, carbon-composite body and integrated stainless-steel contact plate create a secure connection between shoe and pedal for efficient power transfer during training, racing and long road rides.
These are single-sided road pedals with adjustable entry and release tension. Shimano CL-SL110 yellow SPD-SLR cleats are included.
Check Cleat Compatibility Before Buying
The PD-R8200 uses Shimano’s new SPD-SLR road-pedal system. SPD-SLR cleats are not compatible with older Shimano SPD-SL pedals, and existing SPD-SL cleats cannot be used with these pedals.
The included SPD-SLR cleats use a standard three-bolt road-shoe mounting pattern. If you ride several bikes, check the pedal system fitted to each one before changing over, as you may need to replace additional pedals or cleats to keep your setups compatible.
Low Stack and Stable Pedalling
The SPD-SLR platform sits close to the pedal axle, with a 13.3 mm stack height. This creates a more direct connection between your shoe and pedal, helping improve stability through the pedal stroke and during harder efforts.
Wide Carbon-Composite Platform
The injection-moulded carbon-composite body has a wide contact surface to support your shoe under load. An integrated stainless-steel contact plate helps create a firm pedal-to-cleat interface for confident power transfer during seated efforts, sustained climbing and sprinting.
Faster, More Natural Engagement
The redesigned SPD-SLR interface provides a wider catch zone and a reduced engagement angle compared with Shimano’s older SPD-SL system. This helps the cleat find the pedal more naturally when pulling away, clipping back in after a corner or accelerating from a stop.
Entry and release tension can be adjusted to suit your preference. Riders new to clipless road pedals can begin with a lighter release setting, while experienced riders can increase the tension for a firmer retention feel.

Who Is It For?
The PD-R8200 suits road riders wanting a lightweight, stable Shimano clipless-pedal system for regular training, fast bunch rides, racing and long days in the saddle. It is a strong choice for riders building an Ultegra-level road bike or moving to Shimano’s new SPD-SLR system.
Our Thoughts
These pedals suit riders who value a broad, secure platform and Shimano’s straightforward bearing durability. The low stack, wide engagement area and included cleats make them an appealing performance upgrade.
The main consideration is compatibility. SPD-SLR is a new cleat system that fits compatible three-bolt road shoes, but its cleats and pedals are not interchangeable with Shimano SPD-SL.
