The T7 compound and Grid Trail casing sit in a practical middle ground. There is enough grip and protection for technical trails and e-MTB use, but not the extra weight or rolling resistance of a softer gravity tyre.
A Predictable Tread for Mixed Trails
The large, square-edged tread blocks provide consistent traction across hardpack, loose soil and natural trail surfaces.
It can be run at the front or rear, which makes it an easy tyre to recommend when you want the bike to feel balanced rather than using different tread patterns at each end.
GRIPTON® T7 Compound
Specialized’s T7 compound balances grip, rolling speed and wear life. It rolls faster and generally lasts longer than the softer T9 compound while still providing enough traction for everyday trail riding.

The Trail Control T7 is the tyre we’d recommend when you want a straightforward trail setup that works across a range of conditions. Run it front and rear and the bike will feel consistent, reasonably quick and easy to predict.
For faster trail riding and most everyday use, that matched setup makes plenty of sense. If you are pushing harder on steep or loose terrain, we’d keep the T7 at the rear and fit a softer T9 tyre up front. That puts the extra grip where it matters most without adding unnecessary drag or wear at the rear.
The Grid Trail casing is tough enough for normal technical riding without feeling like a downhill tyre. Pressure is important, particularly when running tubeless. Too high and you lose grip and comfort; too low and the casing may move around or leave the rim vulnerable to impacts.
