Comfortable, Powerful and Remarkably Easy to Ride
The Specialized Turbo Como 5.0 IGH 2025 is a full-power electric bike built around comfort, simplicity and practical everyday use. Its low-step frame, upright riding position and stable handling make it easy to get on, easy to control and comfortable over longer distances.
A Specialized 2.2 motor provides up to 90 Nm of torque, supported by a removable 710 Wh battery with a claimed range of up to 100 km or 4.5 hours in Eco mode. The Enviolo AUTOMATiQ internal hub handles gear changes automatically, while the Gates Carbon Drive belt keeps the drivetrain quiet, clean and low maintenance.
The Como 5.0 IGH also includes a RockShox suspension fork, suspended Cane Creek seatpost, Garmin rear-approach radar, powerful Shimano four-piston brakes and all the equipment needed for commuting, shopping and recreational riding.
Relaxed, Upright Riding Position
The Como places the rider in a comfortable upright position with a clear view of the road ahead. Its low-step E5 aluminium frame makes mounting and dismounting easier, particularly when the bike is carrying shopping or when frequent stops are part of the ride.
The wide handlebar and stable geometry give the bike predictable handling without making it feel cumbersome through tighter streets or cycleways. It is designed for riders who place comfort and confidence ahead of an aggressive, forward-leaning position.
Specialized 2.2 Full-Power Motor
The Specialized 2.2 motor delivers up to 90 Nm of torque and smoothly amplifies the rider’s effort by up to four times. It has plenty of support for Christchurch headwinds, steeper hills and riding with additional weight on the rear rack.
Rather than delivering its power abruptly, the system responds to how firmly you are pedalling. This makes the bike easier to manage when starting, riding slowly or negotiating tighter corners.
Support levels and motor behaviour can be adjusted through the Specialized app, allowing you to balance assistance and battery range for different rides.
Removable 710 Wh Battery
The fully integrated 710 Wh battery provides a claimed range of up to 100 km or approximately 4.5 hours of riding in Eco mode under suitable conditions.
Actual range depends on the assistance level, route, wind, temperature, rider and cargo weight, tyre pressure and the amount of climbing involved. Using higher assistance levels on steep or exposed routes will reduce the maximum distance.
The battery is lockable and can be removed from the downtube. This allows it to be charged indoors, secured separately from the bike or removed to make transporting the Como a little easier.
Enviolo AUTOMATiQ Shifting
The Enviolo AUTOMATiQ internal gear hub removes the need to think about conventional gear changes. Set your preferred pedalling cadence and the system continuously adjusts the ratio to help maintain that rhythm as your speed or terrain changes.
Because the system is continuously variable, there are no fixed steps between gears. It can adjust while riding through traffic, climbing or slowing for an intersection without the clunks sometimes associated with changing gear under motor load.
The internal hub offers a 380% gear range and keeps the main shifting mechanism protected from weather and road grime.
Gates Carbon Belt Drive
A Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt replaces the conventional chain. It runs quietly, does not require normal chain lubricant and will not leave oily marks on clothing.
The combination of the Gates belt and Enviolo internal hub makes the Como particularly well suited to frequent transport use. There are fewer exposed drivetrain components to clean and no derailleur hanging beside the rear wheel.
The belt still requires correct tension and periodic inspection, but routine maintenance is considerably cleaner and simpler than with a conventional chain drivetrain.
Comfort Over Rougher Roads
An 80 mm RockShox Recon Silver RL fork helps reduce impacts from potholes, broken seal and uneven cycleways. The Motion Control damper can be adjusted to suit the rider and route.
A Cane Creek Thudbuster ST suspension seatpost adds movement beneath the saddle, while the wide 27.5 x 2.3-inch Specialized Hemisphere tyres provide additional cushioning and stability.
This equipment makes the Como very comfortable on everyday roads and maintained gravel paths. It is not intended as a technical mountain bike, but it is well prepared for the rough surfaces commonly encountered on urban and recreational rides.
Shimano Four-Piston Brakes
Shimano CUES four-piston hydraulic disc brakes provide the stopping power needed for a full-power e-bike carrying a rider and additional cargo.
The four-piston callipers offer controlled braking in wet conditions and on longer descents. This is especially useful when the rear rack is loaded or a compatible trailer is being used.
Integrated Garmin Radar
The integrated Garmin Radar monitors traffic approaching from behind and can detect vehicles from up to approximately 140 metres away under suitable conditions.
Warnings are displayed through the MasterMind screen using visual, audible and haptic alerts. This gives the rider useful information about an approaching vehicle’s position and closing speed without needing to repeatedly look behind.
The radar is an awareness aid rather than a replacement for normal observation, signalling and safe road positioning.
MasterMind Display and Security
The MasterMind TCD display shows assistance level, battery condition, speed, ride information and Garmin Radar alerts. Display pages can be customised and the system connects to the Specialized app through Bluetooth.
Turbo System Lock allows the motor to be disabled through the app and activates a motion-sensor alarm. Once locked, motor assistance cannot be restored without the owner’s personalised PIN.
The removable battery is also secured to the frame with a physical lock. These features add useful protection, but the bike should still be secured to a fixed object with a quality external lock whenever it is left unattended.
Equipped for Everyday Transport
The MIK HD-compatible rear rack carries up to 27 kg and includes mounts for compatible panniers. It can also accept an approved child seat, while the frame is rated for use with a compatible thru-axle trailer.
Specialized DRYTECH mudguards, a 450-lumen Lezyne headlight, brake-sensing rear light, kickstand, bell, platform pedals and a handlebar mirror are included.
This means the Como is properly equipped for commuting, shopping and longer recreational rides without requiring a long list of accessories after purchase.

Our Thoughts
The Como 5.0 IGH is one of the easiest full-power e-bikes to live with. Its low-step frame and upright position make it approachable, but the real difference is the combination of automatic Enviolo shifting and the Gates belt drive.
Once your preferred cadence is set, the hub manages the ratio while you concentrate on the road. There is no derailleur to knock and no oily chain to maintain, which makes sense on a bike intended for regular transport in changing weather.
The 90 Nm motor has plenty of support for hills and loaded trips, while the large battery provides useful capacity for longer rides. The suspension fork, Thudbuster seatpost and wide tyres also make a noticeable difference on broken urban roads.
It is not a light bike and it is not intended for technical mountain-bike trails. For comfortable commuting, shopping and relaxed recreational riding, however, it is a very complete package.
