celebrates our relentless pursuit of the perfect ride since
1987. With a unique silver finish, this collection features
a small SRAM logo and the number “1987” stylized in the
handwriting of Stan Day, SRAM’s founder. The four main
components of the collection feature serialized numbers
from 1 to 1987.
Is the SRAM 1987 Eagle Transmission really limited
edition?
Yes! We have made 1,987 numbered groupsets, and
when they are gone, they are gone!
What is the significance of “1987”?
SRAM was founded in 1987 with a single product – the
Grip Shift shifter. This shifter was born from a desire to
deliver a better ride experience by breaking conventional

all riders.

Can I buy the special edition parts for SRAM 1987 Eagle
Transmission separately?
No, the SRAM 1987 Eagle Transmission collection will not
be sold separately.
Why is the SRAM 1987 Eagle Transmission only offered
with 170mm cranks?
With the very limited edition of the 1987 Eagle Transmission
collection, we chose 170 mm crank arms as they are the
most commonly sold and used size, allowing them to work
for most riders.
Why does the SRAM 1987 Eagle Transmission include
two Pod Controllers?
Two matching Pod Ultimate controllers give you an
organized cockpit and the freedom of left and right-hand
customization, as well as the ability to have a matching
cockpit when using an AXS Reverb and/or Flight Attendant
system with the 1987 Eagle Transmission groupset.
Is the 1987 Eagle Transmission groupset compatible
with E-MTBs?
No, the cassette and chain for the 1987 Eagle Transmission
groupset are based on our super light XX SL components
and are not approved for E-MTB use.
What is different with the 1987 Eagle Transmission
cassette and chain compared to the standard
XX SL versions?
Both the cassette and chain for the 1987 Eagle
Transmission groupset have a unique silver finish. The
cassette is our lightest MTB cassette yet, at 25 grams
lighter than the previous version. Both the chain and
cassette are consecutively serialized from 1 to 1987
Can I shift the 1987 Eagle Transmission derailleur
under load?
The 1987 Eagle Transmission rear derailleur provides
unrivaled shifting performance, allowing you to shift
when you need to, even under load. Over the past two
years, we have been working to continuously improve our
T-Type derailleurs, resulting in faster and more controlled
derailleur shifting speeds. Our most updated, robust, and
responsive rear derailleur debuts with the 1987 Eagle
Transmission groupset.
How do I get 1987 Eagle Transmission replacement
parts?
When the limited edition is sold out - it is sold out. Worn
or crash damaged parts can be replaced with compatible
Eagle Transmission T-Type components from the Eagle
Transmission Ecosystem.
What happens if I need warranty support for a 1987
Special Edition Component?
SRAM has secured a warranty stock for the most
common parts in the main markets. Components replaced
