Wireless Eagle Shifting Without Replacing Your Entire Drivetrain.
The SRAM S500 Eagle AXS Upgrade Kit converts a compatible mechanical Eagle 12-speed drivetrain to wireless electronic shifting. It includes the S500 AXS rear derailleur, AXS Pod Controller, battery, charger and the setup parts needed to complete the conversion.
If your bike already has a suitable conventional Eagle cassette, chain and chainring, this kit lets you remove the mechanical shifter, cable and housing without buying a complete new groupset.
Wireless AXS Shifting
The S500 rear derailleur communicates wirelessly with the included AXS Pod Controller. Removing the shift cable and housing gives the bike a cleaner cockpit and eliminates shifting problems caused by dirty, corroded or poorly routed cables.
Button presses produce consistent electronic shifts without relying on cable tension. The derailleur still needs to be correctly installed and adjusted, but there is no shift cable to stretch or replace.
Compatible with Existing Eagle Components
The S500 AXS derailleur works with conventional SRAM Eagle 10–50T and 10–52T cassettes. It can be used with compatible Eagle chains and chainrings, making it a practical upgrade for many bikes already fitted with a mechanical Eagle drivetrain.
This kit is not compatible with SRAM Eagle Transmission T-Type cassettes or chains. It mounts to a conventional compatible derailleur hanger rather than directly around the rear axle.
AXS Pod Controller
The included AXS Pod Controller provides a compact wireless control with two clearly defined buttons. It is supplied with a Discrete Clamp, allowing it to be fitted independently to the handlebar.
Control functions can be customised through the SRAM AXS app. The app is useful for changing button assignments, checking battery status and installing firmware updates, but it is not required every time you ride.
Built for Real Trail Use
The S500 derailleur uses an aluminium cage and SRAM’s Type 3 clutch to help keep the chain controlled over rough ground. An Overload Clutch allows the derailleur motor to disengage during an impact, helping protect the internal mechanism.
A protective cover is also included with the derailleur. It cannot prevent every type of crash damage, but it provides useful additional protection around the motor and battery area.
Rechargeable AXS Battery
One removable SRAM AXS battery and a USB-C charger are included. The battery can be removed from the derailleur for charging and is shared with a range of other SRAM AXS components.
Battery management is straightforward, although riders heading away for several days may still want to carry a charged spare.

Who Is This Upgrade Kit For?
The S500 Upgrade Kit is for riders with a conventional Eagle 12-speed drivetrain who want to move from cable-operated shifting to SRAM AXS. It suits trail bikes, cross-country bikes, enduro bikes and compatible e-MTBs using 10–50T or 10–52T Eagle cassettes.
It is not the correct kit for a bike already using Eagle Transmission T-Type components. Riders should also check the condition of their existing chain, cassette and chainring before upgrading.
Our Thoughts
This kit makes the most sense when the mechanical parts of your current Eagle drivetrain are still in good condition. You can retain the cassette, chain and crankset while gaining the cleaner cockpit and consistent lever feel of AXS.
The AXS app is useful, but you do not need to take your phone out every time you want to ride. Once the controls are paired and configured, the system operates independently. The main habit to learn is checking the derailleur battery occasionally and charging it before a big ride.
We would check the derailleur hanger and measure chain wear before installing the kit. Wireless shifting cannot compensate for a bent hanger, worn cassette or badly worn chain, so sorting those parts first gives the upgrade the best chance of working properly.
