Built for Technical Trail Riding

The Whyte Karve RS is a 160mm trail and enduro eMTB built for riders who want one bike that feels equally capable on long climbs, flowing singletrack and steep technical descents. Its balanced geometry, responsive suspension and full-power Avinox drive system make it well suited to everything from after-work rides to demanding backcountry adventures.

Powered by the Avinox M2S drive system, the Karve RS delivers up to 130Nm of torque and 1,300W of peak power in its standard performance modes, with Boost Mode increasing output to 150Nm and 1,500W when maximum assistance is required. Combined with its lightweight carbon front triangle, alloy rear end and Whyte's proven Quad-Link 4 suspension, the result is a bike that remains composed on rough descents while climbing efficiently and maintaining predictable handling.

Whether you're riding the Port Hills, Craigieburn, Hanmer Springs or planning longer backcountry adventures, the Karve RS offers the power, suspension and geometry to suit a wide range of New Zealand trail conditions.

Why Riders Like the Avinox M2S Drive System

Up to 150Nm of Torque

The Avinox M2S motor produces up to 150Nm of torque in Boost Mode, providing extra assistance for steep climbs, technical rock sections and slow-speed trail manoeuvres. Power delivery remains smooth and predictable, making it easier to maintain traction when conditions become challenging.

Up to 1,500W Peak Power

When additional assistance is needed, Boost Mode increases output to 1,500W. This extra power helps maintain momentum on steep gradients or accelerate out of corners while preserving the bike's natural ride feel.

Intelligent Auto Mode

Auto Mode continuously adjusts assistance based on rider input, cadence and terrain. Instead of changing modes throughout your ride, the system automatically provides the support required so you can focus on the trail ahead.

Boost Mode

Boost Mode provides maximum motor assistance at the press of a button. It's particularly useful for clearing technical climbs, ledges and short, steep sections where extra power makes a noticeable difference.

Integrated OLED Touchscreen

The Avinox DPC100 top-tube display provides ride information, battery status, navigation and motor settings through a bright, responsive touchscreen that's easy to read in all riding conditions.

Smartphone Connectivity

Using the Avinox companion app, riders can customise assistance levels, install wireless firmware updates, review ride data and personalise motor settings directly from their smartphone.

Lightweight Design

The compact Avinox drive system helps keep overall bike weight lower than many traditional full-power eMTBs, preserving responsive handling and making the Karve feel agile on both climbs and descents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of riding is the Whyte Karve designed for?

The Whyte Karve is a full-power trail and enduro eMTB powered by the Avinox M2S drive system, delivering up to 130Nm of torque and 1,300W of peak power in its standard performance modes, with Boost Mode increasing output to 150Nm and 1,500W when required.

Combined with its lightweight chassis and 160mm suspension platform, the Karve is designed for riders who want one bike that performs well across technical trail riding, steep descents and longer days in the mountains.

For Canterbury riders, it is equally suited to the flowing trails of the Port Hills, the rocky terrain of Craigieburn and the longer rides around Hanmer Springs, where efficient climbing and stable descending are equally important.

Does the Whyte Karve have adjustable geometry?

Yes. The Karve can be switched between High and Low geometry settings.

Changing to the Low setting slackens the head angle by 0.6° and lowers the bottom bracket by 8mm, providing a more planted feel on steeper descents. The High setting offers additional ground clearance, making it well suited to tighter trails and rocky terrain.

The frame also uses ZS56 headset cups, allowing compatibility with many aftermarket angle-adjustable headsets for riders wanting further geometry adjustment.

Do all Karve models include RideWrap protection?

No. RideWrap is fitted as standard to the Karve EVO RSX and Karve RSX models.

RideWrap covers approximately 85% of the frame, helping protect against stone chips, scratches and everyday trail wear. It's particularly useful for New Zealand riding, where loose gravel and rocky trails are common.

The Karve RS does not include RideWrap as standard, however it can be professionally fitted by our workshop before delivery if additional frame protection is required.

How does the Karve suspension work?

Whyte's Quad-Link 4 suspension uses a moderately progressive leverage curve with relatively low anti-squat characteristics.

This provides excellent small-bump sensitivity while maintaining support through the middle and end of the suspension travel, helping the bike stay composed on larger impacts without harsh bottom-outs.

The lower anti-squat characteristics also allow the rear suspension to remain active while pedalling, improving traction on loose climbs and reducing pedal kickback through rough terrain.

Is the Karve RS Right for You?

Perfect if you:

  • Ride technical singletrack
  • Enjoy long trail rides
  • Want maximum climbing assistance
  • Love challenging descents
  • Want one bike that can handle almost everything

Workshop Tip

We recommend starting with around 30% rear suspension sag and slightly lower tyre pressures than many riders initially expect. The Karve responds particularly well to a setup that prioritises grip, allowing the suspension and tyres to work together on rough New Zealand trails.

Our Verdict

The Karve RS is the sort of bike that encourages you to ride further and tackle more challenging trails. The combination of Whyte's chassis design and the Avinox drive system gives it a natural feel that's just as rewarding on long climbs as it is on technical descents. For riders wanting a capable full-power trail bike that suits New Zealand conditions, the Karve RS is easy to recommend.
