An Aero Race Frameset for Your Custom Build
The X-LAB AD9 is an aerodynamic carbon road frameset for riders building a bike around racing, fast bunch rides and hard efforts on open roads. This version comes in the Italian Champion Edition finish, giving your build a distinctive race-inspired look.
Made with Toray T1100 carbon, the AD9 combines aerodynamic frame shaping with race-focused geometry. Choose the groupset, wheels and finishing components that suit the way you ride.
Developed for Speed
X-LAB developed the AD9 using computational fluid dynamics and wind-tunnel testing. Its tube shapes and integrated routing are designed to help reduce drag when the pace picks up, whether you are riding in a breakaway, chasing a personal best or sprinting for the line.
The AD9 platform is raced by the XDS Astana team. This frameset comes in the Italian Champion Edition finish.
Toray T1100 Carbon Construction
The frame and fork use Toray T1100 carbon, with an aero-profile carbon seatpost completing X-LAB’s published frameset specification. X-LAB lists a claimed frameset weight of 1.58 kg in size M without the headset.
That figure is for the frameset, not a complete bike. Finished weight will depend on the frame size and the components you choose.
Build It Your Way
The AD9 is sold as a frameset rather than a complete bike, giving you the freedom to choose your preferred electronic groupset, wheels, saddle and finishing components.
X-LAB states that the frame is compatible with most wired and wireless electronic groupsets from major drivetrain brands. It also uses a Universal Derailleur Hanger, making the hanger standard easier to identify when sourcing a replacement.
Integrated routing gives the finished bike a clean front end, but it makes planning the cockpit and brake hoses important. Talk to us before ordering if you have a particular handlebar, stem, crankset or groupset in mind.
Room for Tyres up to 32 mm
X-LAB states a maximum tyre clearance of 32 mm. That gives you the option of a wider road tyre for added comfort and grip on coarse chip seal, while keeping the AD9 focused on fast road riding.
Actual clearance can vary with the tyre and rim combination. Check the measured tyre width and leave appropriate clearance around the frame and fork.
Key Features

- Italian Champion Edition finish
- Toray T1100 carbon frame and fork
- Aerodynamic shaping developed with CFD and wind-tunnel testing
- Race-focused road geometry
- Integrated routing
- Compatible with most major electronic groupsets
- Universal Derailleur Hanger compatibility
- Aero-profile carbon seatpost
- 12 × 100 mm front thru-axle specification
- Stated maximum tyre clearance of 32 mm
- Claimed frameset weight: 1.58 kg in size M, without the headset
Who Is It For?
- Road racers and performance-focused riders
- Fast bunch rides and rolling road events
- Riders planning a custom electronic-groupset build
- Riders who value aerodynamic performance
- Anyone wanting the Italian Champion Edition finish
- Riders who already have a preferred wheelset or groupset
The AD9 has race-oriented geometry. If you are after a particularly upright position or greater tyre clearance for rough roads, an endurance or all-road frame may be a better fit.
Our Thoughts
The AD9 makes sense if you know how you want your next road bike to fit and which components you want on it. Starting with a frameset lets you put the budget into the wheels, groupset and cockpit that matter to you instead of replacing parts from a complete bike.
Fit comes first. Aero frames and integrated cockpits can make changes more involved, so it is worth checking stack, reach, handlebar width and stem length before committing to a build.
If you are moving parts over from another bike, bring us the details. We can help check the drivetrain, cockpit, brakes, bottom bracket and other components before you start.

What Is Included?
X-LAB lists the AD9 frameset with a carbon frame, carbon fork and aero-profile carbon seatpost. It is not a complete bicycle.
Please contact us before ordering to confirm the exact NZ-supplied package, including the headset, front and rear thru-axles, derailleur hanger, seatpost clamp, compression plug, routing hardware, cockpit and any other small parts.
Wheels, tyres, drivetrain, brakes, saddle and pedals are not included as a complete-bike build.
Size Guide
X-LAB provides the following rider heights as a starting point for the AD9 platform. Check the options above for current availability in the Italian Champion Edition.
- XS: 150–160 cm
- S: 160–170 cm
- M: 170–178 cm
- L: 178–185 cm
- XL: 185–191 cm
Height alone does not determine the best fit. Body proportions, flexibility and your preferred riding position all matter, particularly if you are between sizes. Contact our team or learn more about our Body Geometry Fit service before settling on a frame size and cockpit.
