The Specialized Turbo Vado 3 X 4.0 is a full-power, full-suspension e-bike for riders who want more comfort and capability than a conventional urban bike. It is equally at home handling daily transport, longer weekend rides, gravel roads and easier off-road tracks.
A Specialized 3.1 motor provides up to 810 W and 105 Nm, supported by a removable 840 Wh battery with up to 150 km of claimed range. With 130 mm of front suspension, 120 mm of rear-wheel travel and wide 2.6-inch tyres, the Vado 3 X takes the sting out of rough roads and provides more control when the surface becomes loose or uneven.
Integrated lights, full-length mudguards, a high-capacity rear rack and built-in security features make it a practical transport bike as well as a comfortable weekend explorer.
Strong, Smooth Motor Assistance
The Specialized 3.1 motor delivers plenty of support for steep climbs, loaded trips and longer rides. Its assistance responds naturally to your pedalling, making the bike easier to control in traffic, through tighter corners and on loose surfaces.
Power delivery is based on technology developed for the Levo 4, with assistance matched closely to rider input. The motor system can also be tuned through the Specialized app to provide stronger support or conserve battery power over a longer ride.
The motor carries an IP67 rating, providing protection for regular riding in wet conditions.
Removable 840 Wh Battery
The Specialized Turbo X2 840 Wh battery provides up to 150 km of claimed range. Actual distance depends on assistance mode, terrain, rider and cargo weight, temperature, wind, tyre pressure and riding style.
The side-entry battery can be removed from the frame for charging indoors, separate storage or to reduce the bike’s weight when loading it onto a suitable e-bike carrier.
This is particularly useful while travelling, as some accommodation providers may not allow the complete bike indoors or have a convenient power point near secure bike storage.
For longer trips, the Vado 3 X is compatible with the optional Specialized 280 Wh Full Power Range Extender. When combined with the main battery, this provides up to 1,120 Wh of total capacity.
Full Suspension for Real-World Comfort
The Vado 3 X combines a 130 mm SR Suntour suspension fork with a RockShox Deluxe Select rear shock providing 120 mm of rear-wheel travel. This is considerably more suspension than you will find on a typical commuter e-bike.
The result is a smoother and more settled ride across broken roads, potholes, gravel tracks and easier off-road terrain. The suspension also helps the tyres maintain contact with the ground, improving control when braking or cornering on rough surfaces.
This is not intended to replace a dedicated full-suspension mountain bike for technical trail riding. It is best viewed as a highly capable all-terrain e-bike for riders who value comfort, stability and the freedom to explore beyond sealed roads.
Shimano CUES Wide-Range Gearing
The Shimano CUES 10-speed drivetrain uses an 11–48T cassette, providing a useful spread of gears for climbing, everyday riding and faster sections of open road.
The Shadow Plus rear derailleur helps control chain movement when riding over rough surfaces, while LinkGlide components are designed for smooth shifting and improved durability under regular e-bike use.
The 48T chainring includes chain-retention technology and a guard, providing practical gearing while helping keep clothing away from the drivetrain.
Four-Piston Hydraulic Brakes
Tektro HD-T5040 four-piston hydraulic brakes provide the stopping power needed for a full-power e-bike of this size and weight.
Extra-thick 2.3 mm rotors and substantial 5 mm brake pads provide dependable control on steeper descents, in wet conditions and when the rear rack is loaded.
Wide All-Terrain Tyres
Specialized Hemisphere 27.5 x 2.6-inch tyres provide a stable contact patch and useful cushioning on broken seal, gravel roads and rougher cycle trails.
Flat-resistant construction and reinforced tubes help reduce puncture risk, while reflective sidewalls improve visibility in low light. The 30 mm internal-width alloy rims provide good support for the wide tyre casing.
Integrated Display and USB-C Charging
The customisable colour display is built neatly into the stem, keeping ride information and system controls clearly visible without cluttering the handlebar.
A Turbo Ergonomic Remote lets you adjust assistance settings without taking your hand away from the grip. A USB-C port beside the display can charge a compatible phone or device while riding.
An integrated wireless Quad Lock charger is not included on the Vado 3 X 4.0. Riders wanting wireless phone charging can consider the higher-spec Vado 3 X models.
Built-In Security Features
Turbo System Lock allows the motor system to be disabled through the Specialized app, while built-in Apple Find My compatibility can help locate the bike through Apple’s Find My network.
The removable side-entry battery is secured with an ABUS key lock. These features provide useful additional protection but do not replace a quality physical lock when leaving the bike unattended.
We recommend securing the frame and a wheel to a fixed object with a suitable high-security lock.
Equipped for Everyday Transport
The Vado 3 X 4.0 comes with the practical equipment needed for commuting and longer trips. Its rear rack carries up to 25 kg and includes integrated straps, MIK compatibility and mounting options for compatible QL3.1 and Arkel bags.
An optional MIK front rack can also be fitted and carries up to 10 kg. The front rack is sold separately.
Extra-long metal mudguards, integrated lights, an adjustable kickstand, anti-slip pedals and a bell are included. The rack-mounted rear light also features automatic brake detection.

Riders who prioritise lower weight and a more conventional bicycle feel may be better suited to a Vado SL. Those riding only sealed roads may also find the standard Vado provides enough comfort with less complexity.

The Vado 3 X 4.0 is a good fit for riders who like the practicality of a Vado but want considerably more comfort and control on rough surfaces. The full-suspension frame is the main point of difference, making it particularly useful for mixed-surface commuting, gravel roads and longer rides where comfort matters.
The 105 Nm motor and 840 Wh battery provide the power and range expected from a premium full-power e-bike. Shimano CUES mechanical shifting is straightforward and durable, while the included rack, mudguards and lights mean very little needs to be added before using the bike for everyday transport.
Its weight is the main consideration. This is not the right Vado for someone who regularly needs to lift their bike, but for riders who prioritise comfort, range and ride-anywhere versatility, it is a very capable option.
