The Specialized Turbo Vado 3 EVO 5.0 is a full-power all-terrain e-bike for riders who want one bike for commuting, longer recreational rides and exploring beyond smooth city streets.
Its Specialized 3.1 motor delivers up to 810 W of peak power and 105 Nm of torque, supported by a removable 840 Wh battery with up to 150 km of claimed range. Wide 2.6-inch tyres, a 120 mm suspension fork and a suspension dropper seatpost give it considerably more comfort and rough-surface ability than a conventional urban e-bike.
The Vado 3 EVO 5.0 also comes properly equipped for everyday use, with an integrated touchscreen, powerful lights, a MIK HD-compatible rear rack, full-length mudguards, a kickstand, wheel lock and built-in Apple Find My compatibility.
Specialized 3.1 Full-Power Motor
The Specialized 3.1 motor provides up to 810 W of peak power and 105 Nm of torque. That gives the Vado plenty of support for steeper climbs, strong headwinds and longer rides carrying shopping or touring gear.
The figures are impressive, but the way the motor responds is just as important. Its assistance is based on technology developed for the Levo 4, with power delivered in response to how hard you are pedalling. This makes the bike easy to control at low speeds and gives it a more natural feel than an e-bike that delivers its power too abruptly.
Motor behaviour and assistance levels can be adjusted through the Specialized app, allowing you to prioritise stronger support or extend battery range depending on the ride.
Removable 840 Wh Battery
The Specialized Turbo X2 840 Wh battery provides enough capacity for longer commutes, weekend rides and routes with plenty of climbing. Specialized claims a range of up to 150 km under suitable conditions.
Actual range varies with assistance mode, terrain, rider and cargo weight, wind, temperature and tyre pressure. Riders using higher assistance levels on steep or loose terrain should expect less than the maximum figure.
The battery uses a side-entry design and can be removed from the bike. This allows it to be charged indoors, secured separately or removed to reduce the bike’s weight when loading it onto a suitable e-bike carrier.
This is also useful while travelling, as some accommodation providers may not allow the complete bike inside or have a convenient power point near secure bike storage.
For longer trips, the bike is compatible with the optional Specialized 280 Wh Full Power Range Extender. When combined with the main battery, this provides up to 1,120 Wh of total capacity.
Comfort for Rougher Roads and Tracks
The SR Suntour suspension fork provides 120 mm of travel on sizes M–XL and 100 mm on size S. Combined with the wide 27.5 x 2.6-inch Hemisphere tyres, it provides useful cushioning and control on broken seal, gravel roads, cycle trails and rough urban surfaces.
A dropper seatpost makes it easier to lower the saddle when stopping, mounting the bike or riding down rougher sections. The post also provides 40 mm of suspension movement to reduce impacts through the saddle.
This makes the Vado 3 EVO more capable than a standard commuter or touring e-bike, although it is not intended to replace a dedicated full-suspension mountain bike on technical trails.
Shimano CUES 11-Speed Drivetrain
The Shimano CUES 11-speed drivetrain uses an 11–50T cassette to provide a broad gear range for flatter city riding and steeper climbs. The Shadow Plus rear derailleur helps control chain movement when riding over rough ground.
CUES LinkGlide components are designed with smooth shifting and everyday durability in mind, making them a sensible match for a high-torque e-bike used regularly in changing weather and while carrying additional weight.
Four-Piston Hydraulic Brakes
Tektro HD-T5040 four-piston hydraulic disc brakes provide the stopping power needed for a full-power e-bike of this weight and speed.
Extra-thick 2.3 mm rotors and substantial 5 mm brake pads help with heat management and durability. This is particularly useful on longer descents or when the rear rack is carrying additional gear.
Integrated 2.2-Inch Touchscreen
The integrated 2.2-inch colour touchscreen places speed, battery level, assistance settings and ride information directly in front of the rider. A separate ergonomic remote allows assistance settings to be adjusted without taking a hand away from the grip.
An optional Quad Lock phone mount with wireless charging can be fitted separately. The phone mount and charger are not included as standard, so we recommend confirming availability before relying on this feature.
Specialized App and Rider Technology
The Specialized app allows you to tune motor support, customise the display and record ride information. Compatible Apple Watch integration can also add heart-rate and activity data.
The system’s IP67 rating provides protection against wet riding conditions, making the Vado 3 EVO suitable for regular year-round use.
Practical Security Features
The Vado 3 EVO 5.0 includes a manually operated wheel lock and a mechanical battery lock using a matching key. Built-in Apple Find My compatibility can help locate the bike through a compatible Apple device and account.
These features add useful everyday security, but they do not replace a quality external lock. We recommend securing the frame and a wheel to a fixed object whenever the bike is left unattended.
Equipped for Commuting and Longer Rides
A MIK HD-compatible rear rack is fitted as standard and carries up to 27 kg. It works with compatible panniers, baskets and accessories, while an optional MIK front rack with a capacity of up to 10 kg can also be fitted.
Full-length alloy mudguards, an adjustable kickstand, pedals and a bell are included. The integrated Supernova headlight provides high and low beams, while the rack-mounted Spanninga rear light includes a brake-light function.

At 29.9 kg in size M, the Vado 3 EVO 5.0 is a substantial bike. It is not the best option if you regularly need to carry your bike upstairs, lift it onto a high vehicle rack or want the lighter handling of a Vado SL.
It is also more bike than necessary for short, flat trips on smooth cycleways. In that situation, a standard Vado or lighter Vado SL may be easier to handle while still providing all the assistance you need.
Our Thoughts
The Vado 3 EVO 5.0 makes sense for riders who want to replace more car trips or combine everyday transport with longer weekend rides. The 105 Nm motor and 840 Wh battery give it plenty of capacity, but the suspension, wide tyres and strong brakes are what make that power manageable on rougher surfaces.
It is heavy, and we would not describe it as a mountain bike despite the 120 mm fork and all-terrain tyres. For gravel roads, uneven cycle trails and badly broken seal, however, it offers considerably more control and comfort than a conventional commuter e-bike.
We also like that the rack, mudguards, lights and kickstand are fitted from the start. You are not buying a bare bike and then spending more to make it practical. The optional Quad Lock phone mount is the main feature to check carefully because it is not included as standard.
